Obsessions: Last Call for Pumpkin Pie Blizzard

Any loyal little cookie will know that I have an obsession with Dairy Queen. A love affair, if you will. It’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and nothing in this world gives me quite as much pleasure as a cool, creamy Blizzard. However, you also may know that I currently live nowhere near a DQ. Everyday is a struggle, especially when faced with commercials on TV broadcasting the latest Blizzard treat if for no other reason than to further drive the knife into my heart. My sister, who resides only a few minutes away from a Dairy Queen, likes to send me pictures on her phone whenever she stops in for a treat. She is heartless.

When October first began, a bittersweet excitement fell over me. You see, October means one thing in the world of Blizzard Fans: the return of the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard. I love all Blizzards. I’ve never had one that wasn’t delicious, and there are many that vie for the top spot in my heart. French Silk Pie, classic Oreo, Cotton Candy…they’re all heavenly. But alas, there is one that stands above the rest, if only by a thin margin. And that, my little cookies, is the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard.

It literally tastes like they shoved a whole pumpkin pie into their creamy custard and blended it up.

Or, perhaps they created a Blizzard Morphing Machine that takes any food then converts all of its flavors and characteristics into creamy Blizzard form.

I don’t know how DQ did it, but they did it right. This Blizzard is heaven served straight to your taste buds via an iconic red plastic spoon. It is lusciously creamy, thanks to Dairy Queen’s perfect vanilla custard, and dotted with sweet & crispy pie crust pieces. The pumpkin pie flavors come bursting through with every bite, not just plain pumpkin but the spices associated with the pie as well. It’s finished off with a fluffy dollop of whipped cream.

If you’re wondering how I got my hands on this Blizzard or why it’s missing the whipped cream, then allow me to explain. My father drove over an hour to the nearest DQ (if you can call it that) solely to retrieve this icy treat for me. I’d been dropping hints all month about how I needed one. It’s my favorite Blizzard; how could I miss its once-a-year appearance? Well, on Saturday, my father surprised me with one. I’m still not sure how he transported the Blizzard, but it was fine except for a slightly distorted texture. I’ve never been so shocked in my life. He doesn’t do stuff like this often; he’s too busy working his but off and supporting our family. I had been feeling gloomy as the end of October approached, knowing I would not get a Pumpkin Pie Blizzard this year. Well, my father proved me wrong in a very good way.

It was one of the best Blizzards I’ve ever had.

Thank you, Dad.

I know I don’t typically get all personal with you guys, but that needed to be said. It was a great surprise & a great Blizzard.

You must try this Blizzard. My sister hates pumpkin pie, and even she adores it. If you haven’t tried it yet, now is your last chance. It’s only available through the month of October, and today is the 31st. Get your but to DQ and buy one NOW.

Have you tried the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard? Did you love it as much as me?

Need another DQ fix but can’t get to a Dairy Queen? Then you’ve GOT to try my homemade Buster Bars! Just as good as the original!
